Lacking...

7/03/2012

Let's be honest, working out has never been my thing. EVER. I was always the girl in gym class who hated to run, hated even getting "dressed" for gym. I wasn't about getting all hot and sweaty and then having to change back into my regular clothes and go back to class. Well, not a whole lot has changed. I mean I am somewhat better now but I'm still lacking the "drive" to work out.

Then we have the dieting thing... which is also NOT MY THING. Even more so than working out. I don't like to diet and before this year I've never had to worry about watching what I eat or counting calories.

The other day I got on the scale and realized that I've gained almost 12 lbs since we got married. Let me just say that is NOT OKAY!!! Eating, whenever, wherever {as much as my stomach could hold} has finally caught up with me. I guess my freshman 15 came in a little later than usual.

So with that said, yesterday I decided to do something about it and start eating better and start exercising daily! I'm not starting out extreme because that's just not me. I am however watching what I eat to an extent, but more than anything just watching my portions. I'm trying to eat smaller portions and eat more times during the day than just 3 big meals a day. I think that alone will help but I really want to get toned too!

I started running last night and plan to increase my distance daily as well as doing sit ups and crunches to try and tone my stomach. I know I'm not "fat" I'm just not happy with the way I look for the first time in my life and I want to do something to change it.

I know by working out and eating better it will help every aspect of my life. I just need some positive encouragement and more than anything, MOTIVATION!
Do you guys have any great workout tips? I would love to hear them! :)

  1. I personally love to work out in the morning. I love getting it done and it gives me a nice boost for the rest of the day. Also, the internet is a huge resource for all types of food, and though it can be hard to resist those tasty not-so-healthy treats, websites like Skinny Taste are great for finding healthy, delicious recipes!

  2. Try this website - www.bodyrock.tv
I do these workouts almost every day, because they are so easy to incorperate into your day. They are usually about 12 min long, but super intense. See what you think :)

    Oh, and it's FREE!

  5. Hey! I am just like you. I am just softer now...not much bigger, just not toned and it is irritating.

I've heard great things about couch to 5k (it's an app that works you from walking to running a 5k) and personally I used the $10 medicine ball from walmart. It's a danskin item, 8lbs, comes with a 27 minute DVD. Love it!

Eating right and drinking enough water does wonders! I used The 17 Day Diet book after the holidays and lost 10 lbs. in 17 days. It hasn't come back on yet and I am eating how I normally would...just less carbs after 2pm (that becomes habitual though).

    Good luck!

  6. I used to never work out...First...you should consider other options besides the usual running...the Mr. and I bought bikes and we go bike riding a lot together...it is so much fun. I also suggest you try to find a gym with classes...some have hip hop dancing...and other fun cardio classes where it doesn't seem like a workout. Also my favorite "workout" is Just Dance Wii Games...hahaha Good luck! :-)

& as for working out, I'm in the same boat as you. Although, I think having a partner to workout with may help keep you motivated! : )

  8. My husband and I JUST had this conversation. Neither one of us gained the "freshman 15" but we got married and he's gained 15 and I've gained just short of that! Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!! I am running, doing blogilates (www.blogilates.com) and we're going to start eating better (no more oreos and milk for a midnight snack) :(

    Good luck! :)

  9. Definitely in the same boat as you! I've unfortunately gained a few more than 12 lbs (yikes, admitting that makes me cringe) and I'm just now realizing how much it really has changed the way I not only look but how I feel as well.

I've downloaded the Couch to 5K app and I like it but I'm horrible with sticking to things so I keep starting on week 1 and never getting past it. I have a membership to 24 and like their classes however finding the time to get there sometimes seems impossible.

I am horrible at self motivation and talk myself into watching the last episode of The Bachelorette over going to work out (shame on me). I used to work out every day and it began to get to the point were my body craved it and it felt weird if I didn't work out for a day...I need to get back to that point!

Okay, sorry for the novel but I am just so right there with you on this whole weight/diet/exercise thing.

Oh and I LOVE that image...one of my favorites that I have pinned on Pinterest =)
