Sometimes you can't help but wonder why...
why now? why me? why God?
--
Two years ago {as of May 27th} my husband graduated from the police academy. He went through six months of Monday-Saturday classes and hard-core physical training {he even had to get pepper sprayed.} Since his graduation he has been working full time as a delivery driver to provide for us as well as pursuing his Police career. If you don't know a lot about the criminal justice department then this next sentence might come as a shock. If you are not "commissioned" {hired by a police force} within two years of your state testing date you loose your certifications. In other words, you would have to RE-TAKE the entire academy over again if you want to be a Cop.

Last Summer right before our wedding we found out that one of the local police stations were hiring a full-time officer. Justin decided to apply. Long story short, he passed every test and every interview given to him. A few weeks ago Justin met with the city's police chief and was offered a full-time position. But, before Justin could officially start he had to pass one more test... a physical.

If you haven't realized by now this story doesn't have a very happy ending...
Justin didn't pass his physical because his heart has an irregular beat. So as of now, the job is no longer his.
On April 16th Justin is having heart surgery to fix his {broken} heart.

When you get married something changes. You're no longer two people...
you become one.
My heart breaks for him and his dream. It just doesn't seem fair. I would be lying to you guys if I said I'm not worried about this surgery every single day. I try not to question God's will or plan for us but sometimes it's so hard. I just pray he helps us understand.

We're trying our best to stay positive and count our MANY blessings... but you have those days where the Devil gets the upper hand. 1 Peter 5:7 "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you."

If you guys could pray for his surgery to go well, that would be greatly appreciated.

  1. OMG - I'm a police wifey too (in training I guess since I'm not a wifey yet), and this breaks my heart for him. Skye's interview process literally took 2 years from the first letter to the date of hire. It's a very long and stressful process. I wish your hubby the VERY best with his surgery and I hope that soon after this he can continue to pursue his dream!

  20. "Is anything to hard for the Lord?" - Genesis 18:14

I believe God will see you through all of these. There is nothing too hard for Him to work in your life as long as you abide in His words.
Will be praying for you and your husband :)

  25. Oh this makes me so sad to read! One of the main reasons I fell in love with your blog is because you're so happy and positive all the time. Your happiness is so contagious, and even your happy tweets make me smile. It's so saddening that you have to go through this. I'll be thinking of you and your hubby!!

On a different note, I too had an irregular heartbeat and had surgery to fix it 3 years ago. Also, I work in a cardiac care center and deal with heart procedures and surgeries all day every day! I know you've probably gotten more info than you could possibly want from the doctors, but if you have any questions about it from the personal side, I'd be more than happy to chat! My e-mail is sunshinestateblog@gmail.com

I know your hubby and you will come out of this stronger than ever! :)

  28. WOW! I thought that I was the one writing this post. My husband has wanted to be a police officer for as long as I've known him. He has heart surgery on his lower left ventricle when he was 4 years old. In high school he started lifting weights & when he went for his yearly check up the doctor told him that lifting weights was putting to much stress on his heart; so he stopped. Just last year we faced new problems along with his heart, with that being said he can't full fill his dreams because his heart still skips beats. I really wish your husband the best with his surgery. It's always nice to know that someone somewhere is experiencing some problems but it's always sad when it's something like this. Sending prayers your guys way.

  30. Praying for you.

I am getting married in one year. I'm very close with my family-especially my mother. I may be having to move about an hour & 1/2 away. My mother is having a hard time with it. Any tips on transitioning from living with your family to living with your husband? I think it would be a helpful blogpost! :)

  32. I am so sorry - that sounds awful. I can't imagine the disappointed to go through all of that and get so close to a job only to find out not only does he not get it but has to have surgery. You are so right to lean on God and I'm so thankful we have a God we can trust, even though we may not understand his plan. Just said a prayer for you and your husband! I hope that everything goes well and you can feel extra comforted during this time!

  36. Sweet lady, prayers are being lifted for you & your hubby! I can only imagine the pain :/. Our sweet Lord does have a plan it's just hard to see it sometimes, He can see the bigger picture and unfortunately we can't. Keep fighting and putting your faith in God. He has the BEST plan in store and it will be revealed in time. Jeremiah 29:11 <3

  41. I'm so sorry! My husband just recently experienced a similar disappoint with his job and it does break your heart! In fact, I think I cried about it more than he did!
